Hi, I’m Bushra!
I'm a San Francisco-based Sr. Product Manager with 5+ years of experience, attuned to the well-being, connection, and attentional capacities of human beings.
Currently, I’ve teamed up at Zyka, a nutrition label scanner app that helps people identify ultra-processed ingredients in everyday food items.
My choice of work in technology is part of wrangling with a question of our human condition in a post-FB world. We often cannot predict how a technology will impact humans, although we may harbor good intentions and struggle with paternalism
I’ve attempted to reconcile those confusions and ambiguities, by bringing people closer and into a warmer circle of care with strangers, intimates, and colleagues, in a fellowship of our shared humanity.
Here are some highlights and distinctions towards that effort:
Launched a web app, at Sean Parker’s Airtime, for shared co-watching movie-watching and event experiences (add link) to bring family and friends together in a shared context;
Drove over $5.2M in GMV for Instant Book at Peerspace, from newly activated listings, growing Instant Book to ~25% of all bookings in its first quarter by addressing risks
Named by Marc Andreessen in 2014 as one of Business Insider’s 55 Unknown Rockstars in Tech
I have a BA in English Literature, with a minor in Religious Studies (with a focus on Virtual Religions) from UNC Chapel Hill. I later completed my JD at Elon University School of Law.
If I could keep only one book with me, it would be my copy of Neal Stephenson’s The Diamond Age.
