Before a feature ships, I like to write a short page that show-and-tells everyone what's changing, how it works, when, how we'll know it's working, and who to go to with questions. I've found it's a good habit for keeping product debt down; if a product is hard to explain, it's usually going to be hard to use. This one went out ahead of an update to sharing in the Buddy List on web. It seems like a small change, but it's the foundation for the social loops we wanted to create.

What's launching?

  4. New Users Joined
    • Raw number of new users joined (we needed instrumentation to map to source - whether it was from link or not)

Appendix: How does it work?
  1. What happened to the Buddy List icon?

    It’s been changed into a person with a plus.

    1. Go into a room
    2. Look to the upper right nav bar and you’ll see the icon
  2. How do I copy a room link via the Buddy List?
    1. Tap on the new buddy list icon
    2. Tap anywhere on the bar for Share where it says “Hi <name>...”
    3. Tapping on that bar will allow you to copy it which will be signified by the icon changing into a thumbs up and copy confirming that the link has been copied
  3. How do I share the room link to other platforms?
    1. Tap on the Buddy List icon in-room
    2. When the modal opens, tap on the icon for the social platform you’re interested in
    3. When you tap on it, a new tab should open up with the link populated
      1. If you’re not logged in to the social network, it will prompt you to log in
